The Issues
Public Policy
Every day we all face many issues that concern us and our families. While it is impossible to address each and every one of them here on my website, I have highlighted three major issues that are very important to me and affect a great many of my fellow Houstonians.
Infrastructure
Every day, public infrastructure touches all of us.
From the streets we drive on to the water we drink,
infrastructure is crucial to our everyday lives. My
years of experience working for stronger
infrastructure in the Office of the City Engineer
have given me the experience to navigate the Public
Works system and get results. Over the course of my
five years in public works, I have developed a
reputation as someone who knows how to get things
done. I know how important strong infrastructure is
to a strong Houston and I want to use my experience
to make that happen. We are currently billions of
dollars behind in infrastructure improvements.
We're being outspent two to one by cities half our
size, and it's only going to cost us in the long
run. We must work to make infrastructure a top
priority at City Hall to ensure it's as modern as
Houston and can support positive growth across all
of our communities.
Economic and Community Development
Houston is a world class city. And to keep up with
the changing world around us, it's crucial that we
grow our city in a positive direction. By
attracting new industries and investing in new
technologies, Houston can skyrocket into the 21st
century. As Houston prepares for tough economic
times, it's important that our economy stay diverse
and on the cutting edge to ensure as much stability
as possible. But to attract new industry, and
positive small business growth, we must work to
ensure that our city has the best to offer. As a
board member of the Independence Heights
Redevelopment Council, I have experience working for
stronger neighborhoods. I've put my innovative
ideas to the test, and I know what works.
Additionally, as a homeowner and resident of the
historic Houston Heights, I know the importance of
maintaining the individual character and historic
integrity of neighborhoods. When I'm on City
Council I will continue to work every day for
stronger neighborhoods in Houston.
Public Safety
As a decorated Air Force Veteran and former National
Security Agency Analyst, I understand the issues
surrounding public safety. I began my public
service career working for a safer nation, and now
I'm ready to work for a safer Houston. The key to
making Houston a safer place to live is simple- We
need more police and first responders. Houston
currently ranks sixth among major American cities in
terms of Police Officers per Capita, with about 2.4
per 1,000 people. Houston can do better, and when
I'm on City Council I will work to make sure that
HPD gets the funding they need to continue cadet
classes and ensure that we build partnerships with
local colleges to offer as many classes as
possible. I also promise to work for better
technologies for our police and first responders to
keep them safe while they keep us safe. We have the
best police, fire fighters, and EMTs in America and
they deserve the best from City Council.
